From stationary production to assembly lines at TRUMPF

We used Halocline to redesign a production line for assembly lines. Halocline enabled us to successfully implement our new working method, in which internal iteration loops of planning statuses play a central role.

Easy to get started – even with limited data

The decisive factor was that we were able to quickly develop a concept even with limited existing data (we only had a 2D layout of the current status). Using the 3D functions, we created the digital twin completely and independently. At the same time, we laid the groundwork for future projects by creating standard objects.

Security through precise VR data

We were pleasantly surprised by the accuracy of the VR data, which played a key role in the quality of the planning. Potential errors could be identified and avoided early on in the process. This not only saved time, but also significant costs in the later implementation phase. The intuitive usability of the software was particularly helpful, as it allowed us to quickly familiarize ourselves with it and work efficiently. A concrete example: Milling within the assembly line was only finally implemented once all components had found their fixed place in the virtual space – this ensured planning reliability and prevented unnecessary rework.

Better planning together

Halocline's integrated testing and measurement functions proved particularly helpful for our workers. They were able to quickly and intuitively orient themselves in the virtual environment and actively participate in the planning process. In particular, the ability to independently check distances, movement spaces, and ergonomic aspects promoted understanding of the new workstations and ensured greater acceptance within the team. Early involvement and direct comparison in the virtual space resulted in close cooperation between planning and production – many details could thus be optimized in a practical manner and implemented even better.

“The accuracy of the data in VR was significantly higher than we had previously assumed. In a later implementation, we made mistakes that we had already noticed in VR, but we didn't trust the realism of the data.”
